| SAYAJIBAUG
Sayajibaug is situated on river Viswamitri. It was built by Sayaji III in 1879 A.D. and covers an extensive area of about 113 acres and gifted to the residents. it has well manicured lawns, inter-spread by paths and decorated with Greeco-Roman and other sculptures placed on pedestals. The park with fountains, lawns and trees is a beautiful spot of Vadodara. It is well maintained by the Municipal Corporation. This park has become a recreation center with inclusion of floral clock and fine building for a planetarium. LAXMI VILAS PLACE
It is one of the finest buildings in Vadodara. Maharaja Sayaji Rao III built in the style of Indo-Sarcenic architecture for his residence. The construction of this palace was from 1878 to 1890 AD at a cost of about Rs. 60 million. The interior of Laxmi Vilas Palace in marble mosaic, fine stone, glass and wood is enchanting and has valuable furnishings. Maharaja’s personal Museum is also housed in the same premises. MANDVI his imposing pavilion known as the Mandvi gate was built during the Mughal period and was restored in 1736 A.D. by the Governor Malharao Maloji under the orders of Damaji Rao II (1732-1768 A.D.) The upper storeys erected on the flat roof of the Pavilion are of a later date and were probably constructed during the 19th Century.This pavilion might have remained as a market place (Mandvi) interspersed by two spacious streets dividing into four parts meeting in the center. It is illuminated on special festivals. LAHERIPURA GATE Located at the east of the district court Nyaymandir is the picturesque Gate with three large arches.This gate was erected in the sixteenth century by Khalikhan, the son and the successor of the Mehmud Begda the sultan of Gujarat. The gate still has a magnificent look and is eye catching when illuminated during the festivals. KIRTI MANDIR
Kirti Mandir is situated on the north of the statue of Prince Fatehsinh Rao near the Vishwamitri bridge. With a cluster of Shiva temples it was built to commemorate the cremation of the members of the Gaekwad family. This “E” shaped large magnificent stone building with domed, terraces, balconies and central sikhara rising to about 33 meters. he interior of this elegant structure is marvel finished and on the walls of the central hall are the 4 murals Gangavatran, battle of Mahabhararat , Life of Meera and Natir pooja-executed by the famous Bengali artist Nandalal Bose. This is a majestic monumental building also known as Temple of Flame.It was built in 1936 . MAQBARA (Hajira) it was built in Safavi Persian style. It is famous for its carved marble windows. Constructed in memory of Kutubuddin, the General of the Army of great king Akbar, it is one of the oldest Mogul monuments of the city. KALA GHODA It is situated near the front gate of Sayaiirao Garden. Derewett Wood at a cost of Rs. 60000/- and was raised by the subjects and admirers of Maharaja Sayajirao III in commemoration of his silver jubilee in 1907 and in token of the Loyalty and appreciation of his ever progressive rule . |
