The Sun Temple at Modhera is positioned in such a manner that the sun's first rays illuminate the deity in the innermost sanctum sanctorum throught the main entrance. During January every year, for 3 days, there is a romantic fete of classical dance against the backdrop of the incredibly beautiful Sun Temple.

butsm. International Kite Festival :uttarayan.

Kite flying is special event in Ahmedabad held on Makar Sankranti day, the beginning of the northerly journey of the Sun (Uttarayan). On 14 the January every year the sky is filled with a symphony of colours. Over the years, the festival's popularity has transformed it into an international kite festival where people from all over the world come to fly exotic kites. Though celebrated all over Gujarat, it is celebrated with great gusto in Ahmedabad.

Just 3 hours from Ahmedabad, Tarnetar, a quiet hamlet is transformed into a whirl of colour & excitement in the first week of Bhadropad (August to September). The Tarnetar fair is one of the most colourful events in Gujarat & is attended by over 3 lakh visitors including various Bharwad Tribes of Gujarat. This festival of match making is celebrated over 3 days & 2 nights.

This festival of Lord Krishna's birth is celebrated every year in the auspicious month of Shravan. It is a cause of special rejoicing in the city of Dwarka, which according to legend, was once the capital of Lord Krishna's empire.

butsm. Navratri :garba.

This is a nine day festival dedicated to Goddess Amba and is held on the very first day of Ashvin (around September - October). Navratri is the most important and colourful festival of Gujarat when deferent forms of the Mother Goddess are worshipped. People dance the Garba and Dandiya Ras through the night in an explosion of colour in all their traditional finery and Garba competitions are held.
